5 years

Saturday was my 5 year anniversary. We went to the temple in Columbus and then out to eat. It was nice to spend the day together, even if we had to get up at 5 am to do so. We were back by 3:30 to grandma's. That night we went to see the Christmas lights at the John Deere place in Fishers. They were pretty neat. They had a bunch of tractors, and a barn, and an ark, and the city of Bethlehem, and a big monster, and a train, and a ton more. The girls loved it. We have noticed that not very many have lights outside on there houses. It's kind of sad. Do you think it is the economy, or people just being lazy?

We have been at grandma's house for a few days and Sinclaire is loving the presents under the tree. I think we have looked at the names on the presents four times and have put them in a tower at least that many. It is fun to see her so excited for the big day. Tonight Sam is taking her shopping to buy presents for Kit Kat and grandma and who ever else. I know I will enjoy the evening.

Yesterday I went to Sam's work party. I got to see the office, his messy little cubical, eat some pretty good treats, and meet new people. It wasn't too bad for not knowing anyone, plus a couple hours break from the kiddos(thanks grandma).

Follow Up

This morning Sinclaire was eating her cream of wheat and she said, "Pops isn't a very good cooker.....because he is a man."

Cream of Wheat

Sam eats cream of wheat for breakfast, so lots of time Sinclaire will also want to eat it. This morning was no different. Unfortunately it was very runny. When this happens he adds yogurt. Well Sinclaire got it and tasted it and then stopped eating, which is normal, but then she made a funny face and said, "I don't like this." So I offered to make her some other. Then she said, "Pops, your not a very good cooker." We got a pretty good kick out of that.

One year old presents

So what do you buy a one year old for Christmas when they have tons of toys and don't need a darn thing?

Cute Kidos

I just thought these were some cute photos.

Emma's blanket

I think this little blanket took about 6 months to make. It is a baby blanket for pete's sake. Oh well. It was for my niece Emma, who absolutely adored it. It was fun to make, sorry the picture is a little blurry. Thanks to a friend who let me quilt it on her machine, that part didn't take too long, and I didn't have to baste it together.

Thanksgiving

What a long vacation. I feel like we have been gone for weeks. We spent 5 days in Utah with Sam's family and had a great Thanksgiving. We did see Twilight, and all but the 14 year old was a little disappointed. Ok, maybe a lot disappointed. Oh well, we were all prepared. Unfortunately that was not the worse part of the trip.

I will just sum it up quickly.

Delayed plane---two small children
Tired one year old on plane
Screaming three year old, that knows better, on same plane for almost 30 minutes
Have two more hours to wait in an airport, not to mention another flight
Kit Kat falling and hurting her arm
30 minutes later she is still crying and wont move her arm
Fly to Indy
Wait almost 90 minutes to get to my car while 4 buses for another lot leaves empty
It is 1 AM by now
Got to pay and the machin breaks
Get home and Sam fixes Kit Kat's elbow

So I would really not like to fly anytime soon. Kit Kat had what is called Nursemaids Elbow. I had thought that was it, but I wasn't sure. I tried to correct it, but I just couldn't do it, and she was crying right at me. So Sam took care of it. Then Kit Kat put her arms around my neck and went right to sleep.

It was a great trip, just a little rough on the way home.

Ok, all you moms out there. I have a problem. One that just keeps getting worse. Little Miss Sinclaire, as most of you know just wont use the potty. I have tried candy, stickers, getting mad, being as nice as can be, new panties, a little potty, the zoo, more candy, etc. I have tried everything to get her to use the potty. I thought for a while that we were on our way, but after 5 months of wearing panties, yes we still had some accidents, she started having 4+ accidents a day. So I put her back in diapers. So it is about a month later and here is the kicker. Yesterday she said she didn't like diapers and that she wanted to wear panties. I about jumped up and down. But I kept calm and just said great, we will get you some new panties. Well I think combined we have changed her pants 8 times between the two days. WHAT is the problem here???? She told me she wanted to wear panties, but she still will walk over to the couch, past the bathroom and pee in her pants. So what do you think?

Food for 40???

I don' t know why I always choose the food for enrichment. It always takes forever and something always seems to take a turn for the worse. But mostly I just get annoyed that I have to plan for 40. I understand that there maybe 40 people there, but the chance of that is very slim. Plus, I always have way too much food left over. Or maybe what we make just plain doesn't taste good. I never thought of that. It isn't that we are always feeding half of what is planned for, it is because the food is terrible. I feel much better now. I will continue to make food for 40(mostly because I don't want to do anything else) but now I will feel better about it. I know the next time 40 people will come. Probably to spite me 48 people will come and I will have too few slices cake.

Moving On

We have been out of town a lot. Last weekend we had my mom's auction. I know it has been two years in the making, but my dad had lots of stuff to get rid of. It was a freezing cold day, but no snow so that was a blessing. I am just glad that it finally happened and that most of that stuff is gone, I know my mom is glad too. But most of all someone else took it away and I didn't have to. I know not many people go to auctions, but I love them. I love the great deals you can get, and what good stuff to be had. Now we have to get the rest of the doors out of the house so we can move on to the next step-pushing over the house that is pictured below. Then we will burn the house, the barn, and all the out buildings. As I think about it it is a little bit sad, but things happen and we move on.

Happy Halloween

This is the loot from trick or treating. We went around grandma's neighborhood and had a great time. I think we filled a wal-mart sack with all that candy.

Our little cupcakes loved eating donuts. Is that politically correct?
Cupcakes eating donuts.

Sinclaire loved being a cupcake, and we were just happy that Kit Kat kept on hers. I think the cherry on top was my favorite. She almost didn't wear it, but I tricked her into it by saying it was only for the picture. Well, needless to say it was a very long picture.

We had a great halloween dressing up and enjoying the festivel. Now what to do with all that candy.

Yummy dinner

I made something really tasty tonight so I thought I would share it.

Green rice with chicken, peas, and almonds

(With a name like that I think they should have called it rice, chicken, peas, almonds, onions, broth, and parsley. Just so nothing felt left out)

2 medium onions, coarsely chopped
1/2 cup flat-leaf parsley
1/4 cup olive oil
2 cups long-grain rice
3 1/2 cups chicken broth
1 lb chicken(I used leftover pork roast)
Salt and pepper
1 cup frozen peas, thawed
1/2 cup slivered almonds, lightly toasted

Pulse onions and parsley in a food processor until finely chopped. Heat 2 T oil and add mixture, cook for 3 minutes. Stir in rice and broth and bring to a boil. Simmer for 15 minutes(mine took about 45). Heat 2 T oil in another skillet and cook chicken. Add to rice along with the peas and half of the almonds. Cover the rice and cook until heated through. Serve with remaining almonds.

I think I just really love rice and toasted nuts together. It just has such a great flavor.

Naughty, not me.

I asked Sinclaire if she was being naughty and her response was,

"Nope, not anymore."

I just love three year olds.

WE DID IT!!!!

I have been waiting for the pictures we took on Saturday so I could post about our ride, but I haven't gotten them yet. So I thought I would go ahead and then maybe put the pictures up later.

Nan and I biked from one end of the Greenway to the other and back again. A total of 54 miles. Do you know what it is like to sit on a bike seat for 54 miles? Oh my, did my butt hurt. We started at mile 106 and biked to Losantville, mile 87. We stopped and had a snack, then we went back. We were almost to mile 106 when we came across this wonderful little place called The Island. This guy had built a little island in his back yard and fenced it off and made it look like you were really on an island. It had sand all over with beach chairs and real palm trees and tropical plants. Of course fake flamingos. He had a little shack where he made some very tasty treats. Nan and I both got the wild berry smoothie with a scoop of ice cream. It was a very cute little place and what a great idea. A much need rest for the rear was appreciated along with a cool drink. Well, we started on our way again and finally made it to Gaston, mile 113.5. We took some pictures and we were on our way. We pulled into the parking lot we were done. I have never moved that much in my whole life in one day I am sure of it. It took about 5.5 hours. I think if we do it again we can do it faster, but I am not sure when that will be. We had a great time and didn't really care how long it took us. Anyone is welcome if we do it again, just let us know if you want to have a sore butt for days.

Family Fun

My sister, her children, and my mom came today. We made bracelets and then we went to the children's museum. We had a great time. Jessie made three bracelets for her little friends and Sinclaire made three for herself, I think. The kids loved the museum. Kit Kat loved the space and just ran around almost the entire time.

Yum, pudding!!!

We had thought about giving Kit Kat a spoon to use, and we held out for a while, but we finally gave in. Look at the fabulous way she just knew what to do with it. And look at that smile, what a happy girl.

New Monitor #2

What a pain. We got the other monitor and then when it was all up and going there was a spot on it about dime size. So we had to take it down and get a different one.

So here is the quilt I have been working of the past couple of months. Finally done. I read somewhere that there is nothing better than folding a finished quilt, I did feel relief if nothing else. It turned out pretty good, it was the first one I have quilted on my machine. I just love all the colors.

Now I just have to finish a baby quilt for my new niece Emma. She was born a couple of weeks ago, so I have plenty of time to finish it.

New Monitor

Ok, the monitor has been acting up for awhile now and it finally went down this last week. It would work for a few minutes and then just go blank. It was kind of frustrating. So now I can finally blog all of my good ideas. I will start by sharing the most wonderful recipe for chicken salad ever.

4 cups chicken
2 cups chopped grapes
2 cups chopped red apple
2 cups mayo-I used less
1 1/2 cups chopped celery

1 1/2 cups chopped cashews
1-2 T Ranch dressing powder(or to taste)
1/2 t pepper

It is so good. Thank you Megan, or your mom, or who ever gave it to you. Everyone loved it tonight.

Birthday Girl

The feared machine in the background

I am pretty sure Kit Kat loves "Turtle"
I just love the face

Sinclaire had a wonderful birthday on Wednesday. Grandma took her and Kit Kat to Build A Bear and I would like to say that she loved it, but she was a little afraid of the filling machine. I had to step on the pedal to fill the bear and the turtle. Oh, well she liked washing it and had a great time picking out outfits to dress the bear. I think her favorite things were the panties she picked out. They were pretty cute. We had to get the roller skates. They are just so darn cute.
We then played at the play place in the mall. It is fun and has a really spongy floor. Sinclaire is a little shy of children, but there was this one little boy there that she cried every time he came near. Grandma thinks he snuck in a hit while no one was looking.

Sinclaire picked a sun cake. I was so excited at the beginning at how easy it sounded. Then I began to frost it. All those little "rayes" were terrible to frost. I had just cut the other round cake and made them, well as you all know the inside of a cake is not very easy to frost. By the end I had ran out of frosting anyway, but Sinclaire still loved it. I think the nose was her favorite part. She got lots of new clothes and toys and videos but I think her favorite present are the pair of scissors. Most mornings since her birthday she woken up and asked to cut. My daughter the cutter.

Love being a mommy

Do you ever have those days that you just really like your children. I mean REALLY like them. You sit down at the end of the day and you can't even think of a time when you lost it. Today was that day. I didn't even want them to do to bed they were so good. I have been playing the day back and forth trying to memorize it so we can do it all again, but I am sure that will not happen. Tomorrow we will be going to grandma's. It is Sinclaire's birthday and she is so excited.

Biking Bug

This morning I went for a bike ride. I have caught the bug in the last month and I finally got a bike. So I went this morning. Last night I asked Sam if he thought the greenway was safe and he said yes. I asked him if it was safe in the morning and he said yes. So I was feeling pretty good until I left this morning after this conversaton.

"Just go north on the greenway."

I responed with, "What, you told me I would be safe."

Sam said, "You will be, just go north on the greenway."

So all the way to the greenway I was freaking myself out thinking little men were going to jump out of the bushes. I didn't even make it to the greenway. I just came home. Plus, what was I thinking. You can't even see the road in the morning. It was a wonder I didn't hit a pot hole in this town and die.

So I either need a biking partner, anyone up for it?
Or I will have to join the Y.

A lot of Canning

These are a few of my peaches. I thought they looked a little like an army ready to strike. I ended up canning 78 quarts. I am pretty sure that will last us for the year. I love them. There is nothing like opening a can of home canned peaches. I think my favorite way to eat them is with cottage cheese. I know when I was little my aunt used to eat them like that and I would think it was disgusting. My best friend in college also ate them like that, and I thought it was disgusting. But for some reason I love it now.

I am not sure why I have such a fondness for them, but I can remember staying at a cousins house when I was little and eating a whole jar of them. Isn't that gross. That is like eating seven peaches. You would think after that I would have gotten sick. But I didn't and I still love them.

Staying with papa is painful

While I was away for the day Kit Kat was injured. Sam is not sure what she cut her finger on, but she bled for almost a half hour. I looked at her pj's and they looked terrible. Blood was splattered all over the front of her shirt. Looks like she liked the band aid. I think she even tried to eat it.

NASTY little secret

Kit Kat loves the potty. No, not to use it, to play in it. If I haven't heard her for awhile I am pretty sure I will find her in the bathroom. She is not playing in the big potty every time I go in there, sometimes she has opened the little potty and is sitting with her feet in the hole. I would take a picture to make this more interesting, but I think you know why I don't. I could keep the door closed all day to the bathroom, but the key word here is I. There is another little lady that lives here that just can't seem to keep the door shut.

New Camera

I know it has been awhile, but I just stayed away until I had something to tell again. This is the new camera we purchased after one long, 15 minute with two small children, trip to Best Buy and a little reminder to Sam that I needed a new one that week. It is small and a perfect fit. I know the picture I found to post is lame, but the best I could find. So I will try to keep you posted of all the things I did when I took my little three week vacation from the computer.

Green Beans

I love green beans. So, last year when I found a recipe with green beans, mushrooms, and cream I made it a lot. Well, I liked it so much I lost the recipe. Oh, well. I found a new one and tweaked it a bit.

A bunch of green beans
A container of mushrooms
Half cup of diced onions
2-3 T butter
Heavy cream, whatever you like
Salt and Pepper

Saute your onions and mushrooms in butter. Add the green beans and wait until tender. Then add the cream, or you can add it when you add the beans. Salt and pepper to your liking. They were so good. Growing up my mom made green beans with bacon and onions, they were good too, but I think I prefer the ones with heavy cream.

Small victory

When we have fish Kit Kat usually has one bite, or the normal which is a half bite. Really not even a half bite, it is usually only allowed to enter the mouth before it is instantly yucked back out again. But tonight she ate a whole half piece. I was amazed.

Poetry Reading

Tonight we had a poetry reading. Lots of hot chocolate and marshmallows. Sam read a poem and then we had a guest reader, Shel Silverstein himself. All we had to do was turn on the computer and there he was. Sinclaire learned how to properly "clap" for the event and everything. Kit Kat just ran around and ate everyone else's food.

Shopping Spree

I came to stay with my sister this week and we have just had a fabulous time. I started by going to Sarah's to clean and after a couple of hours I noticed that nothing had gotten done, so I said lets go shopping. So we packed up 3 kids and called Margaret and went to pick her up. When we got inside my mom slipped us each some money and said to have a good time. We shopped for almost four hours and considering it was almost 9:30 when we got home my kids were angels.

So then the yesterday we had planned to go to Shipshewana, this time with no children. We started at the flea market and we hadn't even been there 2 minutes when I saw some peaches for $12 an half bushel and just had to get them. I had just called a farm to see if they had any and they did, but they were $22 for a half bushel. So I got 2 bushel and Sarah got a half. We went to the quilting store where I spent less than $20. That is pretty impressive for me. Margaret spent almost all of what my mom and given her there, so she was done shopping. But we stopped at the bulk food store before we headed home. We got home and started canning my peaches and it took three of us to get those canned in about 3 hours. It was a long day, but I got 21 quarts out of 1 bushel. I would take a picture so you all could see my pretty peaches, but my camera is still broken and I haven't gotten a new one. We will finish canning hopefully tomorrow, and then next week I think we will do some green beans.

Busy weekend

Saturday Sinclaire and I started by going to a garage sale, then it was off to the preparedness fair. We then went home to see if Sam and Kit Kat were were awake from their nap. I went to the grocery by myself, what a wonderful thing. After I got home I did the dishes and we all went shopping. Sam needed some new clothes for his job, so we went about looking for great deals and the best we found was the socks. We got a bunch at Macy's for under a dollar a pair. I was excited, I love a good deal. Then we got home at seven and made a fire in the backyard to roast hot dogs and marshmallows. By the end of our little picnic the girls were very tired. And we still had to give the girls a bath. So Sam did that while I mowed the grass. When I was done we put the girls to bed, I showered and went to bed. I was exhausted. Too much running around. On Sunday we went to church, Sam went home teaching and someone set up an appointment to see our house on Thursday, yea. Then we picked up the house and drove to Indy. I feel like I am never home anymore.

Friday, July 25, 2008

So the other day I was sitting on the couch reading a book when I looked up and saw a little poof of white dust rising above the counter in the kitchen. I was a little worried and very curious. So I went around the bar and got a very good picture of what was happening.

Kit Kat also likes to dump the salt.
(Which I cleaned up a few days later.)

Baking powder, all over. My darling little girls. I just love them. And yes, there is still a bit of powder in the crevices in the floor that just wont come out.

Great Find?

I think so. I have been looking at these for a few years now. My sister has one and she loves it. We for some reason I love to preserve things. I LIKE to can and dry things for later usage. I am not sure if it is because I can save money on produce, or if I am just weird. Anyway I found this at a garage sale last week for $15 and I had to get it. I never spend that much on something at a garage sale, what if it didn't work. I would be so mad. Anyway, it works and now I have to find a great deal somewhere so I can use it. Any ideas?

(this is a food saver.)

Piano needed?

I think Sinclaire needs a piano. We have been at grandma's for a few days and she loves the piano. Today she was sitting there for about ten minutes just singing away. And then it started to get louder and louder, it was very funny. I think if we had a piano she would love it.

Tuesday, July 15, 2008

Hats, Hats, Hats

This is how we found Sinclaire in her room after a bit of silence.

I went to Target and got some items of clearance. This handy hat housed two balls. I think we know what the favorite toy is.

Fair Food

We walked to the fair this evening. I always want to go once, just for the food. Really for the treats. Tonight we got a lemon shake up, cotton candy, an elephant ear, and a piece of taffy. I know, about the biggest waste of money, ever. But oh so good. When we were almost ready to go Sam said that Sinclaire wanted to ride the Farris Wheel. I couldn't believe it. I told him not to take her because she would totally freak out and start screaming in the air, and everyone on the ground would stare at her, and it would just be a mess. But he took her anyway and she had a great time. She waved at Kit Kat every time she went around and had a huge smile on her face. It was very surprising. She was so cute. I wish I would have taken the camera. Well the night is over and we even have some cotton candy left.

Week Off

This is Sam's week off, except for Wednesday. We have a list of things to get done and hopefully we will be successful.

We have already:
  • Trimmed two trees
  • Weed whacked
  • Trimmed the bushes
  • Spread some stone
  • Cleaned the gutters
  • Called the camera shop(which I was informed the fixing of our camera would be about $200. Yea, I get a new camera.)
  • Fixed Sinclaire's bed
I think we are about 1/3 the way done. Not really that bad for us. I know before the day is done we will at least get the green ivy down, ivy down, and call the paper, mortgage company, insurance company, and the student loan company. And I think go to the fair for cotton candy and an elephant ear. Oh what a fun week we will have.

I Spy ...a Sleepy Girl

Isn't she so sweet when sleeping?

I Spy Blanket

Sorry, pictures will come later.

This is another "blanket" I finished about 6 weeks ago. It is an I Spy blanket, but as of late it has turned into a very useful blanket to keep my children warm. It took almost 10 months to finish this. I just got tired of it and would stop, plus I had to get 2 inch strips cut at Joann's, a lot of them. I knew everytime I left they made a comment about the annoying customer that they just had. Me.

New Skirt Book

I bought a book about three months ago, Sew What! Skirts. It is a really neat book. It has about 15 skirts you can make by just measuring yourself and marking it on the fabric. I have looked at it over and over, but I just hadn't gotten around to making anything. So finally I got Sam to do the dishes and I made a skirt. This is it. And I finally used the zipper foot, that I just had to have, that Sam got me for mother's day. It only took a little over two months to use it. I know the zipper doesn't look that good, but no one will see it, I hope.

Fun with other little people

We had a great weekend at grandma and grandpa's house. Sinclaire had a great time with her cousins. We have seen them four time since they have been here and this is the first time she really played with them. She usually played with Lucy, but this time she played with Colin and Noah also. Sinclaire and Kit Kat were asleep before the fireworks, so I could enjoy them. Sinclaire doesn't like the loud noises anyway. And by the way, Sam always ends up smelling like a stinky rag after he lights the fireworks.

Popcorn Popping

Have you ever wondered about the popcorn in your bowl? I guess I have been eating an excess amount because I now have a favorite piece. Who knows, you may have one too. I never thought about it before now. The top picture is the picture of the shape most likely to get plucked from the bowl. The second picture shows my favorite piece. The one with a little head and then arms and legs coming out of the bottom. I eat the appendages first and then the head. I love popcorn.

To Indy we will go.

Sam accepted the job offer in Indy today. His first day is the 21st of July. Yea Sam. To the real world. I guess the only changes will be that he will have to get up earlier and will have to drive more. We will stay in Muncie until our house sells, so we may be here for awhile.

Tweet Tweet

I have thought about a quilt journal for a long time and I am finally going to do it. Sam is making me a cover on the laser cutter at work and I will go and have it bound somewhere. Well here is the first entry on the book, after I try to remember all the quilts I have made and take a picture of them, of course. I really like the look of applique, but it takes so much time. So this may look like applique, but it is just double sided fusing. I know, what a cheat. Oh well, I hope Jenny likes it. I did try out some new things, so I hope it still works as a good blanket. I didn't bind it because the soft fabric on the back is kind of "sticky". I think maybe it will just stay together. And I have never used the webbing before.

Cups, cups, cups

Lately Sinclaire has been climbing up to the bathroom sink and getting her own drink. She usually uses little cups as seen in the picture. Sam came home from work on Friday and caught her in the bathroom drinking out of her shoe. Gross. He asked her not to do that anymore and told her that her shoes were dirty. Well, a little while later he walks by again and she is standing at the sink on her rocking horse sneaking a drink out of her dirty shoe. I just hope it was tasty.

I've been beaten!

I love to garage sale, but almost as much, I love to see other people by my junk. Thus, enabling me to go to someone else's garage sale and bring home theirs. Vicious cycle, I know. On my count I have done five garage sales with my family and I am always victorious. I always make the most money. Usually a couple hundred dollars. It is just common knowledge that I will win. Well, Sarah and I had one on Friday and I knew right from the start that I was in trouble. And by the end of the day I had been beaten. She made $83 and I only made $58. At least i know now that my junk is not worth it. I wanted to haul all the rest to the goodwill, but I know in August I will do one more with Sarah at her house during her small town's ghetto garage sale day. I will just mark everything 50 cents and be done with it.

Jelly beans?

A simple peanut butter and jelly sandwich should be pretty easy to make. Peanut butter. Jelly. Two things every mother of two small children should have. But when Sinclaire asked for jelly with her peanut butter I had to tell her I didn't have any. Only because when I told Sam I had to get some strawberries to make freezer jelly he said, "Why, who eats it." I knew I did, but as a result of the comment no freezer jelly was made and now I am jelly less. Well, after I told Sinclaire I didn't have any she thought about it for a bit and then asked for peanut butter and jelly beans. So in a pinch use the bean, it is almost as good for you. And it is multi flavored.

Job Announcment

While I was waiting very patiently for Sinclaire to finish her lunch I heard a familiar ring coming from the phone. It was Sam, he never calls during the day. I was surprised. I picked it up and he asked me if I had checked my e-mail. I had not. Kind of unusual because I have been checking it about every five minutes since he had his interview last month. We he read it to me and the moment I had been waiting for finally arrived. BSA had offered him a job. What a relief. Leaving Muncie is finally in sight as a reality, instead of a dream that has just been barely out of reach. Yea Sam!!!

Happy Birthday Kit Kat

Kit Kat turned one on Sunday. We were at Grandpa and Grandma's house for the celebration. Molly and her children are here for a month and we didn't think we would all fit very well in our house. She was a little hesitant about the cake at first, but go the hang of it and ate quite a bit of pink cherry frosting and cherry chip cake. She loves all the new toys, especially the barn with the animals.

The Beginning

Sam has been after me for a while to start this blog. So here I am. Starting a blog. He will be so proud when he gets home, I did it all by myself. I even got my own e-mail.
