Green Beans

I love green beans. So, last year when I found a recipe with green beans, mushrooms, and cream I made it a lot. Well, I liked it so much I lost the recipe. Oh, well. I found a new one and tweaked it a bit.

A bunch of green beans
A container of mushrooms
Half cup of diced onions
2-3 T butter
Heavy cream, whatever you like
Salt and Pepper

Saute your onions and mushrooms in butter. Add the green beans and wait until tender. Then add the cream, or you can add it when you add the beans. Salt and pepper to your liking. They were so good. Growing up my mom made green beans with bacon and onions, they were good too, but I think I prefer the ones with heavy cream.

Small victory

When we have fish Kit Kat usually has one bite, or the normal which is a half bite. Really not even a half bite, it is usually only allowed to enter the mouth before it is instantly yucked back out again. But tonight she ate a whole half piece. I was amazed.

Poetry Reading

Tonight we had a poetry reading. Lots of hot chocolate and marshmallows. Sam read a poem and then we had a guest reader, Shel Silverstein himself. All we had to do was turn on the computer and there he was. Sinclaire learned how to properly "clap" for the event and everything. Kit Kat just ran around and ate everyone else's food.

Shopping Spree

I came to stay with my sister this week and we have just had a fabulous time. I started by going to Sarah's to clean and after a couple of hours I noticed that nothing had gotten done, so I said lets go shopping. So we packed up 3 kids and called Margaret and went to pick her up. When we got inside my mom slipped us each some money and said to have a good time. We shopped for almost four hours and considering it was almost 9:30 when we got home my kids were angels.

So then the yesterday we had planned to go to Shipshewana, this time with no children. We started at the flea market and we hadn't even been there 2 minutes when I saw some peaches for $12 an half bushel and just had to get them. I had just called a farm to see if they had any and they did, but they were $22 for a half bushel. So I got 2 bushel and Sarah got a half. We went to the quilting store where I spent less than $20. That is pretty impressive for me. Margaret spent almost all of what my mom and given her there, so she was done shopping. But we stopped at the bulk food store before we headed home. We got home and started canning my peaches and it took three of us to get those canned in about 3 hours. It was a long day, but I got 21 quarts out of 1 bushel. I would take a picture so you all could see my pretty peaches, but my camera is still broken and I haven't gotten a new one. We will finish canning hopefully tomorrow, and then next week I think we will do some green beans.
